The Operations Director has accountability and responsibility for daily operations for Center of Excellence (COE) billing and collections functions, including coordination with departments affecting the billing and collections processes.
The incumbent interprets policies and procedures, recommends changes as appropriate, and provides relevant feedback to Associate Vice President (AVP) in order to meet department and organizational goals with respect to revenue recognition and collection. The focus of this position is to ensure an adequate balance between the legal and financial responsibility to ensure compliance with external laws and regulations, and the responsibility to provide service to the COE departments and staff.
The position requires coordinate activity across organization lines to ensure a unified and proactive billing and collections process within the organizational units that are serviced by the COE. As an Operational Director, the incumbent also serves as a key promoter of the COE as a service organization which strives to meet and exceed the needs of its clients. Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for maintaining high-quality billing and collections services and processes at the COE
Use change leadership skills to ensure staff are motivated and productive to meet and exceed operational goals
Reports out to COE leadership meetings and applicable facility/market meetings
Responsible for ensuring completeness and integrity for the revenue cycle functions within billing and collections.
Review billing and collection performance to ensure timeliness, accuracy, compliance and standards fulfillment as defined in Service Level Agreements
Attend meetings with the payers as necessary
Complete monthly trending analysis of the billing and collections performance
Coordinate and promote implementation and monitoring of standard processes, reporting and education programs
Hire, manage and develop department staff to ensure personnel have appropriate skills and competencies, as well as ensure that skills and competencies required for future needs are developed in advance of their need
Generate enthusiasm and commitment among team members; foster and reinforce team-based results and provide leadership to execute process improvement initiatives
Support COE leadership in company-wide initiatives
Assume a lead role for innovation, knowledge sharing and leading practices identified within the COE and among peer group
Evaluate individual and team performance, identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to team members
Conduct formal performance reviews and provide feedback to team members. Work with team members to improve, trace and develop are of poor performance
Other duties as assigned
Minimum travel may be required (less than 5%)
Bachelor Degree in Business of related field or equivalent work experience
5 years of progressively responsible financial administrative experience within a hospital system or Revenue Cycle COE with multiple report-outs
Collections and Billing Systems knowledge
Knowledge of Patient Accounting – Revenue Cycle Management
5 years hospital collections and billing management
