McClatchy is looking for an ambitious, high-energy Real-Time news reporter to work out of its Washington, DC office. We need a reporter to compile and produce lightning-fast stories and post on all news that is driving the conversation online. This job is based in our DC Office and we are open to considering the possibility of the position being located in one of McClatchy’s other newsrooms nationwide.
The Real-Time news reporter will be responsible for writing, compiling and/or producing lightning-fast stories and posts on the national, political, business, entertainment, sports and lifestyle news that is driving the conversation online – or will be driving it a few minutes from now. It could be the latest big development in the White House or Congress, a breaking scandal in the business world (like United dragging a passenger off the plane), or just Beyoncé one-upping Coldplay at the Super Bowl – all in the same day.
This position helps to train other real-time reporters at the beginner level.
Education: College degree required.
Experience: Professional journalism experience.

Skills Needed: News judgment; excellent writing skills; facility with social media and SEO; quick study of CMS and storytelling tools. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and editors.
